Frequently Asked Questions
What is psychosynthesis counselling?
Psychosynthesis is an integrative approach to counseling that focuses on personal growth, self-realization, and harmonizing the different aspects of oneself. It recognizes that we all have various "parts" or subpersonalities, and healing often involves understanding and integrating these other aspects of ourselves. This approach combines psychological insight with recognition of our deeper potential for growth and meaning.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or struggling with recurring patterns that aren't serving you, Counselling can be helpful. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapeutic support. Many people seek Counselling for personal growth, life transitions, relationship challenges, or simply to gain a better understanding of themselves.
What's the difference between therapy and counselling?
The terms are often used interchangeably, and in practice, there's significant overlap. Both involve talking through your experiences with a trained professional in a confidential setting. I use an integrative approach that draws from various therapeutic traditions to support your individual needs and goals.
How long does counselling take to work?
This varies significantly depending on your individual circumstances, goals, and the project you're working on. Some people notice shifts within a few sessions, while others prefer longer-term work for more in-depth exploration and lasting change. We'll regularly review your progress, and you're always in control of when to reduce frequency or end Counselling.
What happens if I don't feel we're a good fit?
It's important that you feel comfortable with your therapist. If, after a few sessions, you don't feel we're working well together, we can discuss this openly. I can help you find another therapist who might be a better match for your needs. The therapeutic relationship is crucial to successful outcomes.
Is everything I say completely confidential?
Yes, everything we discuss is strictly confidential. As a BACP member, I'm bound by strict ethical guidelines regarding confidentiality. The only exceptions would be if you were at serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or if there are concerns about a serious crime being committed. In such cases would endeavour to discuss any such concerns with you first.
Can I do counselling online?
Yes, I offer secure online sessions via an encrypted video platform. Many people find online Counselling just as effective as in-person sessions, and it offers greater flexibility and accessibility. We can discuss what works best for your circumstances and preferences.
What if I need support between sessions?
While I don't provide crisis support between sessions, I encourage you to use emergency services or crisis helplines if you're in immediate distress. We can discuss coping strategies during sessions, and I can provide information about additional support resources that might be helpful.
Do you work with couples or families?
I specialise in individual counselling for adults.
How much does counselling cost?
Individual counselling sessions are £80 per 50-minute session. I may have limited lower-fee spaces available for those experiencing financial hardship. We can discuss fees during your initial consultation.
What if I'm unsure about what I want to discuss?
That's perfectly normal. Many people start counselling with a general sense that something isn't quite right or that they'd like support, without knowing exactly what to focus on. Part of the early work involves exploring what's most important for you and what you'd like to change or understand better.
